A Letter to New Graduate Nurses

A Letter to New Graduate Nurses

Congratulations on choosing one of the most rewarding (and sought-after) degrees available in 2016!  Nursing jobs are plentiful, and with an estimated 30% of current nurses retiring with the Baby Boomers, you have even more opportunity in the future!

As you search for your first job, be flexible.  There are many types of experience that will help you in your career as a nurse, and you should consider home care nursing one of your most important jobs!  Home care nursing isn’t just about the 2 hour visits post-surgery to set up medications.  Home care in Minnesota is very advanced; home care nursing includes the extended hours shifts (8, 10, 12 hours) for medically complex clients with ventilators, tracheostomies, seizure disorders, IV, and many other cares.

Home care is a great opportunity to work one-to-one with a client and really understand their cares.  You will provide complex assessments and apply nursing interventions throughout a shift in an autonomous setting.  In home care nursing, you can choose to work with adult or pediatric clients, and have the support of the client family.  Since home care clients exist in every neighborhood in the Twin Cities, you can certainly find a client in the geography that most interests you!  Home care nursing has opportunities for full time, part time, casual, and fill-in positions.

Communities of Care has provided home care nursing since 1999, and we know how to do it right!  We carefully match our nurses to their clients, ensuring a good fit.  We provide block scheduling, so you can know your schedule out months in advance.  We provide extensive training in our office, in the home with another nurse, at a 2 month competency, and again for annual competency.  We also partner with our equipment suppliers for specific training on tracheostomy care, ventilators, and other home care equipment.  Of course, our professional nursing staff is available every day as support for you.  Although you are working in an autonomous location, you have all the training and support you need!

Call us to learn more about Home Care Nursing, a meaningful pathway in nursing.  With Communities of Care, you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of your clients each day.   We look forward to meeting you!  Apply now!
